Art4Alz Auction – Memories in the Making

Out of the gate with a bang! On March 11th more than 350 friends, artists and loyal supporters came out for glamour filled Art4Alz Auction; the inaugural event under our new local organization, Alzheimer’s San Diego. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the buzz of excitement, as the Del Mar Country Club transformed into a swanky backdrop for incredible artwork and one smokin’ hot evening.
Thanks to some very energetic bidding during our silent and live auctions and all those who attended and generously gave, we are proud to report that together we raised more than $100,000 that will stay right here in San Diego to support local families.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our Founding Chair, Darlene Shiley, the Dr. Seuss Foundation and all of our incredible sponsors, professional artists, ticket chairs and Memories in the Making teachers. Additionally, I must applaud our two frame sponsors, Elizabeth and David Pace from FastFrame Carlsbad and Jeremy Dunaway from ArtWare who went above and beyond with custom frames for each piece. About the Art
Art featured in the annual Art Auction is created through the Memories in the Making art program and local community artist who are passionate about the cause.
Memories in the Making is a therapeutic program that provides a creative way for those with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia to express themselves, share memories and tell stories through art. It is not unusual for participants to paint memories from long ago or something they can no longer find the words to express.
Along with the beautiful works of Alzheimer’s Art, the Auction will offer inspired pairing pieces from local professional artists. Local community artists select an Alzheimer’s Art piece that inspires them and creates a complimentary piece to be auctioned off as a package. To sweeten the deal, there will also be several experiences paired with live auction art pairings.
