Ways to Volunteer at Alzheimer's San Diego

The generosity that our volunteers provide through their energy, time, and support is unmatched and very much appreciated. We have numerous different roles you can choose from if you’d like to volunteer at Alzheimer’s San Diego, from interacting with people living with dementia and their care partners one-on-one to assisting with our social activities and fundraising events. ALZ Companions

Open to all

ALZ Companion volunteers provide in-home support to family care partners of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Volunteers will provide companionship, socialization, and supervision for individuals with dementia, allowing their care partners to enjoy a break, go to appointments, or engage in other activities that contribute to reducing their stress level. Reception

Open to all

Warmly greet the public at the reception desk, answer calls, and provide information about Alzheimer’s San Diego programs and services. Reception volunteers are the face of the organization! Learn more >

Social Activity Assistants

Open to all

Help set up the activity room, engage participants, and model activities. You’ll also be providing assistance to care partners, participants, and program leaders during our weekly Friday social activities. Virtual Interns

Open to college students

Through this experience you will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; help educate others about their prevalence and impact; spread awareness about the disease and help others understand why they should care; and connect with professionals in the field. Learn more >

VITALZ: Volunteers in Touch

Open to all

VITALZ volunteers make scheduled calls to individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia who live alone. The purpose is to check in, ensure they are well, and to provide a few minutes of socialization. Volunteers will be given a call sheet for each shift and client personal Interests Questionnaires (PIQs) to help guide questions and conversation. Learn more >

Walk4ALZ

Open to all

Walk4ALZ is our largest fundraising event of the year, and we rely on our dedicated and passionate volunteers to make it a success every October! We have a wide variety of opportunities available for this event. Learn more >
