On December 3rd, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Alzheimer’s San Diego.
Ten years ago, this organization was born from the desire to serve the needs of San Diego’s dementia community, to be nimble and responsive to the specific issues and challenges here at home. Alzheimer’s San Diego wanted to make sure that the needs of locals were prioritized, and that the funds raised here in San Diego, STAYED here in San Diego to help OUR community.
In the 10 years we’ve served San Diego, we’ve seen the need grow. In 2015, there were an estimated 64,000 San Diegans living with dementia, and approximately 141,000 caregivers supporting them. In just 10 years, those numbers have gone up astronomically and now almost 100,000 San Diegans are estimated to live with dementia and almost 300,000 caregivers provide their unpaid care. And we know those numbers are likely underreported and that the true numbers are even higher than that.
Becoming a local and independent nonprofit has had its challenges, but for 10 years, we’ve been proud that we have followed that guiding light – to provide San Diegans impacted by dementia with what they need, targeted and built to address things unique to this community.
As we looked forward to celebrating 10 years of serving San Diego, we found inspiration in a small, but critical, change in our visual brand/logo. And so for our 10th birthday, we’re proud to introduce our new logo that visually represents our connection, dedication, and commitment to San Diego as a local and independent nonprofit.
We didn’t set out to change our branding, but Alzheimer’s San Diego has always been about and for San Diego, and seeing that reflected in this new look feels right.
As we head into our next 10 years, we hope you’ll continue to join us in supporting this community we love and care for so much.
