ACL logoAlzheimer’s San Diego is among 11 organizations nationwide to receive a prestigious federal grant this month. The Administration for Community Living (ACL) announced award recipients on July 13th, as part of its Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiatives. Alzheimer’s San Diego was awarded the full amount applied for, $902,826.

The funds will be used for a 3-year project: Enhancing Dementia-Capability and Supportive Services for San Diegans Impacted by Dementia. The goals are to provide critical dementia training to local service providers, and to expand support programs for people living with dementia and their care partners – especially for at-risk and underserved populations.

“It is an honor to be selected for this ACL grant, which will enable us to provide even more free support to the San Diegans who need it most,” said Eugenia Welch, President/CEO of Alzheimer’s San Diego. “Dementia is a complicated, heartbreaking disease that severely impacts our community. Alzheimer’s San Diego exists to ensure no one has to face it alone.”

A major component of this project will include expanding our VITALZ program, which specifically serves San Diegans with dementia who live alone. It will also allow us to increase education opportunities in Spanish, to support family caregivers of people with developmental disabilities, and to provide training to other local agencies such as Elderhelp.
