Social Activities Volunteers: What is the program like?

Among the most popular programs at Alzheimer’s San Diego is our social activities & outings program, and the Social Activities volunteers are a huge part of its success. From helping set up the activities every week to setting the tone for the room to be at its best for people living with memory loss, when this may be the only time of the week they are able to get outside for socializing. We appreciate past, current, and future volunteers who participate in this program and many others to assist those impacted by dementia in community. Hear from the volunteers and families themselves:

Quotes from Social Activities Volunteers

I enjoy watching everyone participate and have fun in whatever activity is for the day, it’s contagious. :)

I like the interaction with the participants of the activities. I enjoy seeing the positive energy during the activity and I also enjoy seeing the loving relationships between the [participants] and their family.

If I didn’t say it already, I had a wonderful time working with y’all, it was probably the coolest thing I did that whole semester. Thanks for giving me the chance.

Quotes From the Families

Mom looks forward this class every day, Friday can’t come quick enough. Please don’t ever stop providing these wonderful classes!

..our quality of life was definitely enhanced by the activities. Getting to know the staff and volunteers helped dim the isolation of our situation.

I love how positive and upbeat the experience is for everyone involved.

The outings gave [my husband] something to look forward to. What you do is appreciated. We were so overwhelmed at the time and we really didn’t realize the value of everything you offered until later.
