Thanks to Facebook, fundraising has never been so easy.

While you can start a Facebook fundraiser anytime, the birthday fundraisers are the most popular. (It doesn’t hurt that Facebook will send you a notification two weeks before your birthday, prompting you to do it.)

Bethann Giraldi couldn’t wait to get started when her birthday came around.

“I kept seeing people on my Facebook feed starting birthday fundraiser pages, and my birthday was coming up and I was feeling drawn to start one,” Bethann said. She asked her friends to support Alzheimer’s San Diego – the cause is especially meaningful to her because she lost her own father to Alzheimer’s last year.

In the end, Bethann more than doubled her original fundraising goal of $300 and raised $739 for Alzheimer’s San Diego!

To those of you who have been thinking about starting a Facebook campaign, Bethann recommends finding the cause that means the most to you, and sharing why you picked that cause on your campaign page along with updates.

“I know when I had my page up, a few of my friends shared my fundraiser on their page all on their own without me asking,” she explained. “It was moving to see how many people I knew who had some family member or friend they knew with Alzheimer’s.”

Bethann said that even though it was her first time creating a facebook fundraiser, she didn’t find it difficult.

“In the end it felt good to raise money for an important cause and to hear from a few other people that I am close to, who have dealt with this disease in some form,” she said.
