Alzheimer's San Diego President Shelita Weinfield appeared on KUSI's Good Morning San Diego to explain why those with Alzheimer's or another dementia may wander, and to share practical tips to reduce the risk of wandering.
Neraly 65,000 San Diegans have Alzheimer's or another dementia, and that number will continue to grow until a cure is found. KUSI recently dedicated an entire San Diego People episode to Alzheimer’s disease and the epidemic happening right here in San Diego.
With DNA tests like 23andMe claiming to identify genetic risk factors for Alzheimer's disease, those with a family history may be feeling unnecessary fear. This July, Alzheimer's San Diego is bringing together two leading neurological experts to explain what those "risk factors" really mean.
This is a love story. The ending is already written, thanks to a cruel twist of neurology. But after 28 years and several lifetimes' worth of adventure together, Thomas and Lynn Shaw are still crafting their middle. The beginning of their new beginning started the Wednesday before Thanksgiving 2016, when Lynn was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer’s disease and dementia aren’t easy to talk about, and are often misunderstood. But nearly 230 friends and supporters helped fight that stigma at the inaugural Visionary Women Luncheon & Auction at Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa on May 12. More than $200,000 was raised to support local families and research for a cure!
